At 10.45am on 9 February 2026, Mikaela was formally admitted at a ceremonial sitting of the Supreme Court of Queensland in Banco Court. Admission sittings mark the point a law graduate transitions to being an Officer of the Court, emphasising their duties to the administration of justice, ethical standards and the community.

Mikaela was moved for admission by Michelle Wilson, Associate at Griffiths Parry Lawyers, before The Honourable Chief Justice Helen Bowskill, The Honourable Justice John Bond, and The Honourable Justice Elizabeth Wilson.

From student to practitioner

Mikaela’s admission marks the culmination of several years of focused study and early professional experience. She completed a Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Criminology and Justice at the University of the Sunshine Coast between 2021 and 2025, followed by a Graduate Diploma of Practical Legal Training at the Leo Cussen Centre for Law from August to December 2025.

In January 2025, Mikaela joined Griffiths Parry Lawyers as a legal secretary, gaining hands-on exposure to practice life while completing her studies. That early immersion confirmed her desire to build a career grounded in client service, professionalism, and ethical practice.

Reflecting on her admission, Mikaela said the day was both humbling and motivating: “Being admitted to the Supreme Court was an incredibly proud moment for me and my family,” she said. “I am deeply grateful to Michelle Wilson for moving my admission, and to everyone at Griffiths Parry Lawyers who supported me along the way. I am excited to begin the next chapter of my career and to continue learning as a lawyer.”

The Court’s message to newly admitted lawyers

In her address, the Chief Justice welcomed the newly admitted lawyers and their families, noting the sitting was the formal exercise of the Court’s jurisdiction to admit them to the profession.

You will need to have additional skills, particularly in relation to the responsible use of artificial intelligence, that we did not need when we started our careers, although we are also learning those skills now.

The Honourable Chief Justice Helen Bowskill, Supreme Court of Queensland

Her Honour emphasised that admission carries a shared responsibility to uphold the rule of law, describing the profession as a partnership founded on trust between lawyers and the judiciary. That trust begins with the oath taken before the Court, and the commitment it represents.

“Those are not just words,” the Chief Justice said, referring to the commitment sworn by each new lawyer.

The Chief Justice also spoke to the impact of technological change on legal practice, including the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Her Honour noted that while new capabilities will shape how work is done, the profession will continue to depend on critical thinking, judgment, insight, compassion, and independent human oversight.

Joining the Family Law team

These principles — integrity, human judgment, compassion, and service — underpin Mikaela’s work as she begins her legal career as a lawyer with Griffiths Parry Lawyers’ Family Law team, where she will practise under the guidance of experienced practitioners.

Rebecca WilsonGriffiths Parry Lawyers’ Director who heads the Family Law practice, welcomed Mikaela’s appointment and acknowledged her commitment and work ethic:

“Her admission is a well-deserved milestone and a testament to her resilience, professionalism and unwavering work ethic,” Rebecca said. “Family law requires both technical skill and compassion, and Mikaela brings a strong foundation in both. The profession is fortunate to welcome a solicitor of Mikaela’s calibre, and I am incredibly proud of all she has achieved.”

It has been a true privilege to mentor Mikaela throughout her journey from paralegal to solicitor. From the outset, she has demonstrated exceptional diligence, integrity and a genuine commitment to her clients.

Looking ahead

For Mikaela, admission marks the start of a responsibility she intends to carry with care.

“I am motivated by the idea that lawyers can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, particularly during difficult periods,” she said. “I am committed to practising with integrity, continuing to develop my skills, and contributing positively to the profession.”

In the end, the oath shapes the work, and the work tests the oath.

Griffiths Parry Lawyers congratulates Mikaela on her admission and looks forward to her contribution to the firm and the clients she will serve as part of the Family Law team.
